We’re heading west to explore the fresh, elegant wines of Kartli — and meet the passionate people behind them.
This time, we’ll visit two wineries in the western part of the region. Along the way, we’ll pass through the colourful hills of the Kaspi region, quiet villages nestled by the Trialeti mountain range, and old vineyards that reflect Kartli’s deep winemaking roots.
Our first stop is
@samtavisi_marani, where we’ll meet Mamuka Kikvadze. With a background in art, Mamuka Kikvadze makes wine with a clear sense of style and care. From the way he works with local grapes to the distinct, well-designed labels — everything feels intentional. At Samtavisi Marani, we’ll tour the winery, hear Mamuka’s story, and taste wines made from local grape varieties: Chinuri, Chinebuli, Goruli Mtsvane, Shavkapito, and Buza.
After a short drive, we’ll arrive at
@tedzamiwines, in the village of Garikula. There we’ll meet Gio Malatsidze, who has brought new life to his family’s old vineyards. Gio’s energy and focus have turned Tedzami into a place where tradition is alive again. His wines — especially Shavkapito and Goruli Mtsvane — show the best of what Kartli has to offer. We’ll visit the 250-year-old marani, sit down for a relaxed dinner with Gio, taste his wines, and hear the story of how he became a winemaker.
